Please park considerately and not across peoples drives – lift share if possible.

UPDATE 2021

“After much thought and deliberation we have sadly made the decision to cancel this year’s Race Up The Beast on 2nd June, and the Druid Race on the 7th July”.

“Whilst there are changes we could make to the format this year to make them COVID safe, our decision came down to the possible impact on the community and reputation of the club and races going forward”.

“Our races start and finish in the heart of the two villages and we’re not confident the locals would thank us for attracting 30, 60 or 90 runners”.

“We are looking towards the Dash in the Dark races which we hope will go ahead due to the venue being completely different, and depending on the situation, may alter our races for next summer”.

October 2020

We don’t need to explain that it’s been a strange year.  The situation regarding our sport has been unclear, at best, over summer, and since the initial lockdown restrictions began being lifted, then new restrictions came along, the situation has not helped our race organising at all.  Ultimately, as you will have guessed, there have been cancellations, delays, postponements, and all manner of complication in between.

The current situation is that we have decided to cancel all Fell races races for 2020 and also the Dash in the Dark series 2020 / 2021.

We are meeting on a Tuesday eve, occasionally on a Thursday,  following the all the local and Welsh COVID-19 lockdown rules and guidance.

Fingers crossed that we can get back to some normality for 2021.

Dash in the Dark 3  – THIS FRIDAY.

22nd  January 2016– Dash in the Dark – Race 3.      distance  6.5km

CRR DASH 2015 full

Regrettably we have had to make the decision to postpone the Dash in the Dark race this evening.

Despite the valiant efforts of the OPA staff, the car park and visitors centre should be open later today, but the access road remains untreated and has a significant covering of ice and snow this morning.

With more snow forecast  later today, and the temperatures set to drop below freezing this evening, it would be irresponsible to continue with the race.

We would have liked for the race to have gone ahead but with the access roads into the forest itself being closed, vehicular rescues will not be possible, so any assistance will be a long way off if required. In other words, if we had an accident out on the trail, we could not ensure correct treatment was available.

Please keep an eye on the website for updates as we plan to hold the race on Friday 22nd January instead.

Arenig Fawr fell race. 3rd August 2014 at 13:00. Entry fee: £4

Race statistics: Distance 13km, climb 1000m, (8 miles, 3300ft); Category AM

The race is tough and NOT suitable for novices and requires good navigational skills. A reconnaissance is recommended. The route is flagged from the start up to the foot of the gully (1.3km) and from the gate at CP6 to the finish (0.5km). The flagged sections are compulsory. The rest of the route is unmarked and offers the possibility of route choices.

The race starts and finishes at the disused Arenig quarry, elevation 350m. The route follows an uphill quarry track for 1200m to a height of 470m. It then crosses a stone wall and climbs up a steep gully and emerges onto a grassy hillside. The gully can be avoided by skirting round the crags to the right, see figure 1 and map.

CRR.

All races are cancelled until further notice, and subject to the latest Government guidance and restrictions.

CRR.

All races are cancelled until further notice, and subject to the latest Government guidance and restrictions.

CRR.

All races are cancelled until further notice, and subject to the latest Government guidance and restrictions.

CRR.

All races are cancelled until further notice, and subject to the latest Government guidance and restrictions.

CRR.

All races are cancelled until further notice, and subject to the latest Government guidance and restrictions.

CRR.

All races are cancelled until further notice, and subject to the latest Government guidance and restrictions.

Arenig Fawr fell race3rd August 2014 at 13:00.
